Toddler craft ideas – firework painting

Here’s a fun craft you can easily do at home around Bonfire Night, Diwali, New Year’s Eve or indeed any other event which involves fireworks!

All you need is:

  • Cardboard inner tubes from toilet rolls or kitchen roll
  • Black sugar paper
  • Scissors
  • Different colour paints – bright neon ones are great for this project. I used three colours from a set of six neon finger paints from the Early Learning Centre
  • Something to spread the paint on – I used paper plates as they were the closest thing to hand but are not good for the environment so I recommend washable plastic trays or plates

Taking the toilet roll tubes or cutting a kitchen roll tube in half, cut several slits around the base about two inches deep, so you can splay out the base of the cardboard tube as shown.

Put some paint onto your plates or trays. You can either do single colours like I did or mix them up.

Simply use the cardboard tubes to stamp paint onto the black paper to look like fireworks! My two year old then did some hand painting as well so make sure you have a wet cloth or similar to hand!
